Hello James, no this question was not for 'preferred' results. There is this thing called trials and averages. I would rather ask 100 people this question and go with the answer that got over 50% responses then follow one persons experience blindly. I THINK MANY BYC MEMBERS MISUNDERSTAND THIS PERSPECTIVE!!!!!

Bobwhites are easier to tame. Valleys perch when they sleep at night and both are cold hardy but need to be in coveys to stay warm. Valleys are very timid and you would have to spend a lot of time with them after hatching to tame them. I suggest putting feed in your hand when they're young and letting them feed out of your hand daily.

Hi! I've never had gamble but for the chicks, when they still need heat I would keep them in a large storage tub, then when older in a large rabbit hutch and aviary! But keep a bird net over the tub, as soft protection so they don't fly out. The rabbit hutch would also need a layer of protection on the roof so they don't break their neck! Honestly I think gamble and valley should be kept in aviaries not hutches as they are more wild than bobs and cots.

Ok, let me rephrase this. I rescued a baby quail from getting eaten by blackbirds. Mom and dad nowhere in sight. The little guy seemed very lonely so I found a guy who had 2 that he gave me. Rather then write a long story I posted a quick question. So my bad on that. I have rescued ducks, hummingbirds all to be released back into their own habitat. I currently have a dog as a pet, I have rescued dogs, cats, bunnies and horses to name a few. And gave them a home that people would say, when I die I want to come back as your pet. So I just want to say thank you for your advice slidershooter. Wow! I guess I thought this was a place to come for help. I must have been mistaken based on your condescending response. Maybe someone out there can refer me to someone that can actually help me with how to care for these baby quail....

Welcome to BYC/Quail

Coturnix do well on wire but I don't know about these.

As for your last response I don't thick SliderShooter was out of place at all. I can't tell that they weren't responding to the OP. After all you did highjack an old post to ask your question.

If you really do want to "rescue" them then you should turn them over to the Game & wildlife in your area which will probably lecture you.

Just remember you may have saved one bird but you took food away from another. I'd that was the one that died anyhow then now that was just a meal lost for nothing.

I'm all for untangling a duck from fishing line but I don't like interfering with wild animals that aren't messing with me, mine, or the property.
