right?!?!

that's a lot of baby rabbits. i thought 8 was a large litter. i was unaware they had 11 babies - - except for the really large breeds like the flemish.

also, those little guys can move to be a day old. quick crawlers!

WOW congrats...actually all the flemish I had all had small litters...The med. breeds really crank em out lol

i have a genetics question. since both black parents carry the blue gene, do the black babies also carry for blue? is that a silly question?

oh - one more thing - - i covered them completely with the hair. do you think that's ok? should i have let some space open? it gets down to the low/mid 60s.

LOL duck chick my second doe started nest building now.....

lol and they were both bred the same day....now im really confuged

Ha, I did tell you LOL :D All that hay your putting in there must be going to their little bunny heads.

HEY, I went and bought my little rex buck some girlfriends. I went only meaning to buy one and ending up with two, no clue how that happened
tongue.png
One is broken Opal and the other is a Castor. They are so pretty but FULL of attitude and FAT as little market hogs. I don't mean pleasantly plump, these guys are seriously over weight, but so unimaginably fluffy and squeezable
love.gif
. The first thing I'm going to do is put them on some sort of diet. Any tips???

Yes slowly introduce them to grass...and give them hay!!....no alflafa no treats....give them fresh veggies.....try giving them fresh stuff before you give them their pellets....

I called the breeder I got my NZ from and he told me his does usually make nests a wek ahead of time....so I MIGHT be in luck YAYYY

It all depends. Think of it like this. B stands for black, b stands for blue. Both parents would be Bb, the blue babies would be bb, the black babies could either be BB or Bb, meaning some will carry for blue, but a few won't. Technically they could all carry for blue, or none of them will, it all depends on how the genetic dice rolled. Most likely they will carry for blue, but you won't know until they get old enough to have kits of their own.

_______|___B____|____b_____

__B____|___BB___|___Bb_____

___b____|___Bb___|___bb______

This is a fair representation of what happened with you liter. The single letters stand for the codes the parents passed onto the liter. With rabbits, the kits each get one letter from each parent.

Congrats on the big litter! Keep an eye on them, mom's sometimes have a trouble with such a big bunch of babies. I've had liters with 13 babies but usually end up with about 6 or 7. Not trying to get your hopes down, for all I know she will handle them fine but just be prepared okay?

Not sure on the heat, if you notice them making noise or really scattered apart in the nest it would be good to remove some fur and let them breath. In those temps they don't really need to be completely covered.

If it appears that some aren't getting enough milk, I recently had to raise a kit from about 5 days old. I fed it kitten milk mixed with one tablespoon of cream mixed in each can of kitten milk. I fed it with a syringe two times a day. There is an article on line stating just how many cc's a day to feed at which age. My little boy is a healthy tame little bunny today. The babies tummies should be super round, if not, not getting the milk. Here are some fotos.
