- Your herd is great looking. I am starting with my first two meat breeders. They are New Zealand/Beveran does. Waiting a while to add a buck from a separate line when the sisters are old enough. Right now, just enjoying watching them be bunnies (and eating everything blooming in my yard!) It's a nice life watching rabbits and chickens in your own yard and growing some of your own food. Wish I would have started this years ago. Enjoying every minute of it now.

This is Stewie, she (originally bought as a he) is Angora/New Zealand cross and much, much bigger now. The "litter box" in her pictures, yeah she doesn't fit in it anymore.

Thanks!!! That's great! Have your raised meat rabbits before? If I where you I'd start looking for a buck now and maybe get one. Nows the time of year to do so. Thanks for the comment!!! ;)

Thanks, I got her on St patty's day last year and she's been an only "pet" up until about 3 weeks ago. Yes, she's spoiled and has free run of my house. We've had rabbits before but just for fun. We had a (come to find out) very pregnant kitty show up at the house a few weeks ago and I felt sorry for her and would let her in at night. At first she ONLY came in when I was home because I didn't want the cat to hurt my rabbit. That was a wasted worry, I watched (and yes laughed at) that rabbit chase the cat all over the house the first time she realized the cat was inside. So now we have Stewie, Snowball (the preggo cat), 15 chicks in a brooder in my oldest girl's room, Shelby the Turtle, and 12 fish...all inside with me, my hubby, and our 4 girls!

My doe kindled today! I actually got to watch it. Unfortunately, the baby was still-born, but HUGE! The first kit that my doe had last time was almost 1/3 the size of this one. Is that normal? I'm seriously thinking not. Also, when the doe eats (what I thought was the placenta) does that mean she is done kindling?

I've heard new brood does (especially dwarf breed does) commonly have still-born litters in the beginning. I'm hoping that's the case with my doe.

I never had a stillborn so I dunno :( sorry to hear.

It is amazing to watch them labor tho. My does eat the placentas AS they are birthing. By the time my girls are done they're usually semi cleaned and she's busy making sure to get all the mess up and back to fluffy white in no time (instict says get rid of the evidence fast so predators don't come to see what's going on.)

First litters in all rabbits tend to be duds about half the time. If you can tell us how big the kit was in inches we can tell you if its normal. I was shocked by the size of the first baby bunny I ever saw! So big!

The first two were about the size of my middle finger, when stretched out. I have small hands, and my finger is around 2 1/2 inches. This recent kit was around 5 1/2 inches when stretched out! Huge difference. I can only think that was because the big kit was the only in the litter (as far as I know, I'll check on her in the morning) it took up all the nutrients momma was providing and became jumbo-sized.

This is the first kit next to my hand.

I'll upload picture of the recent kit tomorrow.

I have another question though,
How long could the time space be from each kit? Minutes, hour, couple hours?
