He's only 4weeks old, I wont have him at least another week or two. The woman I'm getting him from (along with the other two does I have) weans them at 4wks and if they're doing really well and growing she'll let them go at 5wks-6wks. I thought the rule was 8wks back when I was younger and breeding/showing rabbits myself. But maybe I'm thinking of another animals - like kittens or something LOL We got our Harlequin at 7 weeks and the Tort at 5 weeks. Only because the Harli was born two weeks earlier so I had her keep the two together while the tort was getting weaned from it's mother since they were going to be living in the same cage together. They are both doing well and growing like weeds. This is my little guy on the right I'll be getting from her in the next two weeks or so...The other two are broken blue and siamese sable.

Wow, very cute, looks like my chinchilla Mini Lop.
The lady I got my Lionheads from tried to sell me a chinchilla Lionhead pair.
I didn't have enough room at the time, but I'm thinking about contacting her and asking her if she still has them.

How big is your new guy?
My little bunnies are 4 weeks old today and they are still very small.

I couldn't imagine giving them away at this age, but I think Holland Lops grow faster.

Here they are, there first day out of the kindling cage

SQUEEEAAALLLL!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE that one on the right in the back. What color is that? Looks like a cream color with "Dutch" marking on it's head. So cute!!

IMO, that is too early to take them off the mother. I don't take them any earlier than 6 weeks. If I have an unusually large litter, I might start taking one or two out each day starting in the 5th week, but never before that. I think as long as momma can handle them in with her, the longer the better. She jumps away and stops them from nursing when she feels it is right, so if they go longer than 6 or 8 weeks, I don't fret about it. My Californians I left in for 8-weeks because they are meaties who will eat me out of house and home if I let them, and the mommas were handling it fine.

I think so too, like I said back when I was raising hollands, the "rule" was you wean around 5-6 wks and let them go to their new homes around 7-8wks. I've learned thoughout the years though that there are many breeders who do things differently. Ours are doing just fine, and I do remember her telling me that the reason she weans them at that age is because they usually do start to pester the mother and the mother starts trying to avoid them. She would never take them if they weren't eating pellets. There have been a few that were smaller that she kept behind with the mother while the others were weaned from her. But she's never had any problems with any being unhealthy because of it. They grow so fast and once they start eating the pellets they bulk up fast.

You'll prob end up seeing these little ones all over this place!! :)
I just gotta share them with the world!
Today, 10/26/12, @ 3:20pm Oreo had 5 healthy MM lionheads!
