Sable Points have really dark brown points, very nearly black, and a cream-colored body. Is it just my eyes, or are this guy's points dark gray?

Shadeds can be really nutsy-making. The shaded gene is temperature-sensitive, so the intensity of the markings can change with the seasons.

Is he the same rabbit we were talking about in this post?

That's him! He has very dark points with a gray/white body, no cream. You can see some faint brown on his nose and that's about it.

I still think he's the color that I've heard called Blue Pearl, Pearl Point or Blue Point -namely, a dilute Sable Point. Smoke Pearl is the dilution of Siamese Sable, and has a darker body color than he does. It's a pretty color; I think the only the angoras show in it, though.

So happy! My polish doe had a litter of 2 yesterday. One solid chocolate and one broken (black or blue) can't tell for sure. Sire is a fellow 4-Hers and is black with one Leg and my doe is a broken chocolate with one leg winning BOS open out of 34 polish at her first ARBA show!

Does anyone here raise meat rabbits? I have just decided I would like to get into them and found a good deal on some American Chinchilla Rabbits. Any extra info or advice?

Yep... I raise pedigreed AmChins. In addition to looking at fur pattern and structure the biggest problem I see in this breed is animals that do not weigh enough. This is true not only for showing but obviously for meat. Make sure they have growth/weight records. That's the first thing I'd ask about. Pedigrees will tell you senior weights in their lines.

Meat rabbits, like meat chickens, are not chosen just bec they are rabbits or chickens. They are chosen for how much they eat before reaching processing size. Most meat rabbits and chickens are ready for processing relatively quickly. Angelici on this thread raises both successfully and can give you the specifics. I have never raised meat rabbits and what I know is from observing her, so she is the "go to" person for the best info. She has studied cost of raising to meat ratios, margins can be slim. She raises NZW for meat purposes and has developed pedigrees. I definately would not get rabbits for meat without serious consultation with an expert like Angelici.
