Any rabbit, of any breed, can be nasty. The best rabbits are those that have had handling from the day they were born. A certain amount of temperament is inheritable, but there is no breed where every individual is guaranteed to behave a certain way.

That's what I figured. Our Hollands were fidgety from the start. I'm the only one who handles them daily now. My holland buck isn't that bad. I can hold him like baby and he just lays there. The does we're always feisty.

Rdrstr - cute bun!!!!

Ain't that the truth. I have three, same breed, same litter. One is smart as a whip and friendly as all get out, one is wily and could take you or leave you, and the third acts like every time you open her cage door is the very first time she's ever seen a human being and she freaks out. I've had all three since they were 8 weeks old, they've all been handled the same, reared on the same foods/treats, same genetics.. but they run the full spectrum as far as temperament goes.

I have heard about some of the rabbit breeds, especially small ones, that will bite and hang on! I was told this about Hotots, Dwarfs, and Britannia Petites by people who have owned them. But the dwarf bunnies I had in FL were not biters, just timid. I agree it helps if you handle them early and often. I have not run across a biting Lionhead yet. Mine are so mellow, they just lay on their backs in my lap and let me cut their toe nails. Personally, the primary purpose of the bunnies I breed is for companionship so a biting rabbit is useless no matter how pretty it is. And I really value my fingers.

Some rabbits from my rabbit keeping history:

I'm not entirely sure of their breed but I think they're Dwarf crosses (except the first one which is definitely pure Dwarf). But breed doesn't really matter to me as long as the rabbit's personality is a good one!
