I'll be done with work in about 45 mins so I'll be going back out there with my phone to take pics. I went out there to check on how her nest was coming along, didn't think she'd have them that quickly but she did! LOL There's no funny business with this momma.

Just went out to check on Caramel and we have 5 babies!! Looks like 1 Harlequin, three brokens, and one dark one that I won't be able to tell I'm sure until it gets fur. She was bred with a Chinchilla so I'm not sure if it can be a Chin or something else.
Lynzi, if you bred a solid chin to a solid harlequin, you cannot get brokens. Those might be magpie harlequins, which is the harlequin gene with the chinchilla gene. Your dark one may be a chin or a chestnut (there's a light colored triangle behind the ears. If it's white, that's a chin. If it's yellowish, that's a chestnut.

If I have magpie harlequins in this litter I will be soooo happy! I LOVE the coloring on those! The litter this doe came from actually had one magpie that I wanted soo bad but the breeder was keeping her. I'm going out to take pics now....

Alright here are some pics...Now that I have a better look at them (I didn't take them out of the nestbox the first time I went out there this morning) they don't look like brokens because they only one spot of coloring and the rest of their bodies are pink, which means they'll be white? I have one that is all pink, no markings.

Here's the nest of them:

Here's the one I think is Harlequin?

No Markings:

One Marking on back: (this one worries me a little bit because it seems to be "bruised", see how much darker it is on it's bottom, almost purple)

One Marking over left shoulder:

And the solid: (which I'm thinking is a Chin after BunnyLady's description)

if I breed a broken (white/black) with a chestnut what are the colors I would end up with? I don't understand the genetics. And the color generator doesn't have broken as an option.

I could be wrong but I thought when you bred a broken to a solid you will end up with both broken and solids. I don't know too much about genetics and how they work. It's so complicated to me and every time I've tried reading into it I get overwhelmed. Where is this color generator you speak of??

it depends on the broken. if it is a "proper" one, you will get some solids some brokens. if it has very little color, you might get only brokens. broken black + chestnut should give black, chestnut, broken black and broken chestnut if i'm not mistaken. there is a possibility for other colors depending on the recessive genes they are carrying. black and chestnut are both reasonably dominant colors.

.

i have a dark (seal) American Sable doe and a Satin mix buck. the buck we found hiding in our barn. the doe is the start of my breeding stock. i will be getting a buck whenever the breeder has one to sell me and another doe when i find another breeder in the area (anyone know a Sable breeder near SW michigan?)

i used to raise jersey woolies, Polish, and holland lops. i want to start breeding woolies again, i just need to find some worth breeding (again, anyone know any breeders?). i used to know a lot about color genetics, especially those that apply to the woolies. i have more to learn, but i am finding that i remember a good amount. the biggest problem i have is that different breeds use different names for the (genetically) same colors

my Sable doe is supposed to be bred (the breeder bred her right before i got her). we are at day 18 right now, so i'll know fairly soon.

Shes only a week in, is cabbage bad? just curious? i only give her a carrot a week and its pre cut (a little snack every day) along with a few apple slices, I have alfalfa hay, is that fine?

Thanks!!!

Aldo

cabbage isn't good for rabbits in general, it can cause diarrhea which can be really bad. you have to be careful with any high-water content veggies. carrot, apple and alfalfa should be just fine.
