I think many of those crammed into small cages are sold by resellers, who buy animals at auction cheap and then resell them at flea markets for a profit. Most of those guys do not worry much about the welfare of the animals, other than getting their money back. But at least most of the ones you see at auction do not live there permanently, unlike the commercial laying hens. I try to give my animals as much space as possible, and still fit all of them in my truck if I am selling them at auction.
I got a great deal today on Craigslist, bought three triplex bunny cages with water bottles, feeders, and some nest boxes for $60! What a steal! You can't even buy the wire for that much. So now I will have space for the bunnies I have been growing out. Plus I will save time not having to build them. Just wash, spray paint , and put into use.

Ha ha. It is actually illegal to buy, sell or use fireworks in my parish (county) in Louisiana, but there are still LOTS of it.

Anyone here heard about the "snuffles vaccine" if so, what are your thoughts on it?
I just had to cull 5 of my rabbits do to pasteurella like symptoms. I'm seriously considering getting it as I don't want to ever deal with it, or worry about it, again.
I know there are some cons to the vaccine. Some people are saying that by vaccinating our rabbits against this illness, we are creating rabbits with weak immune systems since we won't be culling infected rabbits anymore. I think, that if your breeding for this strong immune system, why do you quarantine your sick rabbits? Shouldn't you keep sick rabbits with your herd to see which ones become ill so you can cull them? Also, rabbit breeders have been culling sick rabbits for about a century now and we still can't get our herds to the point of immunity.
There's a lot of breeders who are for the vaccine and a lot who are against. I'm doing my best to do my research on the vaccine and find out what's right for my herd.
