Couldn't disagree more. To consider one a breeder when you have a couple of chickens is a slap to anyone that has bred for a lifetime. I could get excited about anyone's desire to breed some mixed birds, but to consider naming a breed with no intent or goal is a bit like referring to ones self as an olympic hopeful after a skating lesson or two. Reality has some merit.

and why does that bother you? is it causing you pain, I think not, if you don't agree with someone, fine but just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean everyone has to, have you ever heard the phrase live and let live, if you have maybe you had a problem with the phrase perhaps it wasn't written to your expectations. I am getting tired of this, don't let these bullies decide what you do, if want to make a new breed the knock yourself out and put me down for the first dozen eggs you sell

I know the OP is a very young person, but if they're old enough to be part of a forum I guess I feel like they're old enough to hear the truth. What he was proposing doing was not creating a new breed. I think it's a great goal for him somewhere down the line in his life when he's actually raised some birds and not just had his chicks for a few weeks. Would it be kinder to let them hatch out some birds and believe they really had a new breed? I don't think so.

Some of you young folks need to get over being so sensitive to any criticism or differing opinions to yours. We "old fogeys" have seen enough in our lives to know it certainly doesn't rate getting so upset about someone else's opinion on the internet. Believe me if someone not agreeing with you is the worst thing you have to deal with in your life you will be very lucky indeed.

This is excellent advice. It's great if you listen to the breeders who know what is involved and stay realistic about the cost of developing an actual new breed. If you just want to cross two particular breeds to see what they produce, go for it! I used to cross my Blue Orp rooster with my Buff Brahma hen. Makes a very large pea combed bird, sometimes feathered legs and sometimes not, solid black or blue pullets and blue or black males with lots of gold in the chest, back, wings and hackles. I loved that cross. No, it wasn't a new breed, but lots of BYC folks had those crosses. Very handsome birds. Someone I know was so taken with them that he kept a trio and was going to breed them. I'm not sure whatever came of that or how the second generation turned out.
I'm glad to see someone excited about the possibilities. If it doesn't work out the way you wanted, then scrap the plans or make them better, but have fun.

Couldn't agree more. People think there's nothing more to breeding chickens, dogs or whatever than putting a male with a female. That does produce offspring so I suppose it is breeding in a very limited sense but it's not breeding that preserves or improves a species.
As to the OP I'd offer a part of the definition the APA uses when considering the admission of a new breed to the Standard: the subject birds must breed true [a paraphrase]. The offspring of the proposed one generation cross will not meet that requirement. They will be cross breeds [mutts], nothing more.
If you want to cross breed some chickens to see what results-have fun. To insist the outcome of that cross is a new breed is ludicrous.

I understand all points mentioned here, both pro and con. Personally, I am tickled to death to see a young person so enthused over something besides cell phones, texting, video games, etc.

Just remember that when people tell you that you can't, can't never did anything.
