If you don't have a standard or goal to breed towards how will you know when you've gotten there?

Oh and you really ought to listen to big medicene.....he's spent 20+ years developing a new color variety of brahmas, so he knows exactly what it takes to develop something new.

Yup, myself, I keep a few in the freezer.
(evil grin)

I only wish I could work with you on this... I think it's real exciting to find folks who get all interested and involved in stuff that doesn't involve dope, mooching, or LAZINESS! You go!

Hey, when I was a kid some friends were 'thinkin' of trying to develop a new breed of dog. Their female was a pekingese (golden), the male a german shorthaired pointer(brown with freckles). WAIT, before you laugh... the litter that I got a puppy from was the cutest, dearest little doggie you ever want to see. Kind of like a small, black, cocker spaniel. He was my childhood dog and the beginning of a lifetime love of dogs. They didn't follow through on the mighty complex road to establishing a breed but you can if you've a mind to!

Just trying to save you some time, and a lot of feed.

The parent breeds you mentioned have different comb, leg color, and builds, let alone color patterns, so deciding which you are breeding for early will save you some directionless wandering, and I can can not emphasize this enough, feed. A project like this requires hatching many chicks, hopefully to get a few young worth breeding from, to improve the next generation. Good luck.

here we go with the experts, I'm so glad we have these people to watch over us cause ya know were so stupid and stuff,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, would it be alright with you if I keep my chickens in pens or do you think you should come over here and show me how to do it.

Nobody said not to breed them and nobody said leave it to the experts.......

just do it and have fun with it, there are enough positive people on here to give you support, don't pay any attention to the people who are negative, you could be a mad chicken scientist and not even know it yet
