What show breed do recommend for a newbie.?

X2 ... that's what I was gonna say. Get something that appeals to you, a bird with whom you have a good rapport. And again, get more than one because they are social beasties and don't do well in solitary-chicken situations. Besides, once you have one, you'll want more anyway.

Nice looking chicken...I looked up the breeds you advised on the internet...

I asked this exact same question a few years ago when I was starting my son with show birds.
I was told white birds are the easiest color to show and silkies are easiest for kids. that said, we went with white silkies. where did I buy my son silkies, at a poultry show from someone that was showing. he paid $10 for a young white cockeral. he won with that bird several times best silkie. I like more of a challenge so I breed and show blue laced red wyandottes. and white wyandottes (blr are not an approved color yet so I can't win but best variety). I have wyandottes because I like them, they lay well even in the winter an dthey are calm birds but I tried several different breeds before I found the one I liked and I also bought breeding stock at the poultry show from people that were showing that day and winning. sometimes at the end of the season, you can buy birds that won that day in the show for a reasonable price. also get involved with your local poultry club, that right there will get you some of the finest birds or at least help you make contacts that will be invaluble.

Buy silkies from a breeder...they are small and sweet chickens
