Yeah I feel that way to. I need to sell some, but Its hard when Ive had these girls for a while. My rooster are easy for me to give up but my hens, I love them.
My flock has mareks, so I have to process any chickens I don't want to keep any longer. If I could sell/give away, I'd probably only have ⅓ of what I do right now

I have one large flock divided into several subflocks:

The Hens (4) 2-years
The Biddies (3) 6-months
Lil 'n' Lu (2) 6-months
The Chickies (4) ten-weeks
And, if Jen's eggs hatch, the Buggers (one-week-in-the-egg)

They all free range together.

I have two coops: the main one divided into several apartments, to accommodate most of the subflocks, and a smaller one for the last subflock.

The Hens and Lil 'n' Lu both have a rooster in their pen. They take turns free ranging because they'll fight otherwise.
This has all changed…
I just got two more hens, bringing the total to nineteen. I must be officially insane.

Anyway, the main flock lives in the old duck pen as the runs got taken over by cats.

The new hens with the lowest ranking bird from the main flock live in the third run. They will eventually be joined by a rooster who is in my prefab right now.

I converted an old shed into a chicken coop to house my aggressive boy, his two girls, and the free ranging hens (the Virtures, formerly the Chickies if you see my above post).

Jen’s eggs turned out both to be roosters.

My system is really hard to understand unless you see pictures. Maybe I’ll do a coop article one of these days…

Right now the chicken count is;
28 hens
2 roosters
16 pullets, 8 weeks old
All my chickens are Speckled Sussex and are free-range.

I have no regrets what so ever concerning the breed or walk-in coop size.
Recently I even named their coop. Since they are all the same breed none of them have a special name, they are my Feather Heads. 20241208_113127.jpg
