Dittos again. We live in a throw away society. Relationships, animals--if we're no longer happy with it we throw it away. "Next??"Cocker Spa
Cocker Spaniels require frequent grooming. If you have them groomed professionally which is the best choice you will be putting out a lot of money. Six years ago it was costing me about $45 a month to have my Springer groomed ( and no, Springers are terrible for your lifestyle!)
I.think you should work with the dogs you have before you even remotely consider adding another dog. Puppies do not come magically trained. The rescue dogs that you disdain are generally the products of people like yourself who neglect their puppies and then dump them.
But I expect you'll get a Bassett anyhow because you want one. Poor pup.
@Willowspirit I hear you on the energy thing. We've got one really ancient Yorkie, one elderly Yorkie, one elderly Chihuahua, one old Golden Retriever and two younger dogs. Everyone of them is groomed, fed, cleaned up after and occasionally yelled at by me, their "mom". It's exhausting at times.I adore them. And now that I'm old the five years is almost a good thing. But i already have four dogs, two of which are elderly, one is middle aged and one who's young. I barely have the energy for the ones i have!![]()
I love my Aussies. They love my chickens and protect them.Hello all,
I'm interested in getting a small breed of dog and I really love Basset Hounds, their saggy faces, long ears, etc.. Who can resist?
However I really don't like that hounds tend to run and always have their noses to the ground..
I was also walking a beagle once and she was literally dragging me all over the property following scents and I even lost control of her one time and she got away. (She was caught luckily) But anyway are Basset hounds the same way? They just seem like the lazy stubborn type to me that don't really care about smelling everything and running all over.. But I really want to know others experiences and opinions. Are they easy to walk on a leash? I'm looking for a small breed of dog that is social and well behaved around other people and dogs without being territorial and barking at them.. I would love some breed suggestions as well.
Thanks to all in advance!

i like poodle crossed with anything, half poodles are smart
I have these breeds...A Border Collie/Aussie cross..Aussie/Golden Retriver cross ...Maremma..Toy Poodle and a Yorkshire terrier..All have different temperaments and each dog is an individual of its own breed. No two Dogs of a certain breed will ever act the same as its full sibling..
Thanks...I love all my Dogs and have never been without one my entire life. Dogs are fantastic animals and definitely each personality requires different training...That is very true.
True!! Poodles and poodle mixes are great dogs.
That’s true. Just like humans, siblings can be completely different.
You seem to have good breeds though. I’ve thought about getting an Aussie, Golden, or Poodle. BC too but decided BC might be a bit too much work. A cross of some of those breeds sounds good though.
I'm not a small dog fan, particularly, but we had a Jack Russel Terrior for 12+ years that was really nice. Jacks are generally intelligent, high energy dogs that thrive on active exercise. In my experience, they come two ways, very friendly or ankle biters, so beware.Hello all,

We had a Cocker years ago. I'd suggest getting one from hunting lines, or at least pet lines, as opposed to show stock, for reasons I'd happily share in PM's.I know a few people who keep Cocker spaniels for retrieving (there's a local pheasant hunting club) and they seem to be good dogs. Of course, your average hunter puts a lot of time into training his dog, so that might not be a good place to get a sample. They're small-medium—20-30 pounds.
