What State Fits My Family Best?

If your in Mass now I think you had better choose another left leaning Liberal Democratic state, more than likely the northeast or Oregon, California places like that might be a good choice. There is more to think about than just the seasons, it would be nice in a perfect world LOL. it wouldn't be real fun living in a place where people don't share your views on life. IMO

Surprisingly I will not suggest my own state. Real estate is too expensive if you want lots of land, although I don't know what your idea of "expensive" is.
I'd like to suggest the Upper Peninsula of Mi. I haven't lived there but I will soon enough when I save the money, but here are some pluses that make me want to move there, and they fit your descriptions too:
- LOTS of cheap land. I've been looking and there's properties with 30 acres+ with a house, well and septic for around $50000
- 4 seasons, but there's tons of snow. Maybe if you live around their "banana belt" you get around the same snow as in, say, Chicago.
- Farming/rural community but "depressed" economy. You have to make your own way up there.
- Nice people that I've met. When we visit up there people are always helpful to us, and one woman even said, "I'm in no hurry, you go first" when both of us were backing out at the same time!! I've never met a person do that down here

I think those are enough for me to live up there LOL

x2 gotta love the mitten state!! how ever I will say that having traveled to Texas and Oklahoma to tour longhorn ranches, both states are nice, but Oklahoma was a beautiful state and the weather does change seasons, and the laws they have seem to be logical ones for the people, but I don't live there so maybe I'm way off.

x2. NY transplant, but been here for 18 years and am an adopted southerner. Currently have 14 chickens, a dog, 5 cats - and planning on getting a couple mini-goats and a beef cow. Love the seasons, but don't miss 6 months of winter like I had in upstate NY. We're in an agricultural district, were property is fairly inexpensive and you can do what you want (within reason).

I LOVE NC!

Minnesota! All four seasons, people in this farming community wont mind what kind of animals you have, and there is a lot of land - mostly crop farming where i'm at. Plus theres snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling!

Georgia got southern people alots of land and REDNECKS And cheep place to live we looking at a house with 6 acreage with 2,345 sqft house for 119,000

Well... if I liked winter a bit more, I would probably leave Florida... We've lived in a handful of states and driven across the country a few times... and these are the two states I would have trouble choosing between...

North Carolina and Idaho.

North Carolina has the seasons... it has the land.. it has natural beauty... and most of all it has a right friendly bunch of folk (LOL) that are pretty down to earth farmers and hunters (at least in the area we were in, Advance) who bring their rifles on into the local diner and set them against the table and no one bats an eye... send over pies to the new neighbors to welcome them

and send over a dozen hatching eggs and a loaner incubator when word gets out in town your thinking of starting with chickens
lol.png

I think that really says something in these times

Idaho is simply gorgeous.... it's open and free and the capital city, Boise, for example.. is called "The city of trees" because some time ago they went through the city planting a gazillion types of trees EVERYWHERE and set up the roads to go around this beautiful diversity rather than mow through them. Idaho has differing weather depending on the area, Boise is a moderate temperature year-through.. and with all of the mountains, each big valley has it's own individual climate. The people are nice and wave to you as you pass them on the road, *in the CITY!* in fact it got rather tiring having to wave back all the time
lol.png
.. theres plenty of farms and animals.. and to top it off, Adventure! You could go white water rafting, camping in a remote locale just in the next valley, flying (I learned to fly there

)... the list goes on!

Wow, I sound like a tourist brochure
