What the heck is making that sound??!?!?

I like most snakes, the hubby shoots them on site no questions asked! (He thinks I'm crazy, if I know they are poisonous I grab em!) That and we have 2 little ones so gotta keep them safe! ​

I have sixteen pet snakes. Heh! No hots, though - as much as I love some of the rear-fanged varieties (Mangrove! Hognose!) I react very badly to even 'harmless' spider venom, so I stay away from anything even remotely venomous. I'd rather not find out if I react to snake venom as well.

I didnt know we had them here!!
It's good to know it isn't something bigger!!
But it gets a bit annoying. He/she sits in trees right out from the house on all end and whistles and it echoes like crazy! Make it sound so much bigger then it is lol​

The bird you're hearing is a Chuck-will's-widow. Whip-poor-wills are a different species of bird and have a slightly, but distinctly, different sound. The birds are very similar and are in the same family called nightjars.

Yep, Whip-Poor-Will is similar, and a member of the same family, but like Imnukensc said - a different species from Chuck-Will's-Widow, with a different call. Another Nightjar relative is the Tawny Frogmouth - but I believe those are found in Australia, so they're not likely to show up in Florida! Fascinating birds, all of them.
