What The Heck is This??!!

Yay! Progress! Keep her hydrated! Brown poop an improvement. Maintain the course. You are doing great!

Thank you! I was feeling a little defeated earlier when she wasn't really seeming to feel better, but the poop inprovement is good! :D

She seems perkier this morning and was laying down when I came in to give her her medicine. I remembered how much they love my whole grain bread with all the nuts and seeds in it, so I stuck the little pill in a little piece of bread and she snarfed it :D So three doses in her, my vet said if she's not better after 5 doses he didn't know what would help, so 2 more to go.
She's not really interested in the pumpkin anymore, so I'm going to make her a little oatmeal and put some starter feed in it, wish I had some yogurt but I'll get some when I'm in town today.

Oh this is really great news. Fingers crossed! You are doing great MesMama!!!

It is now sounding like there was an infection since she is seeming to respond to the Baytril, plus what @Bantambird has been saying all along, re: the poo etc...

DO think seriously about quarantine measures going forward...even if she is better...to keep the rest f your flock safe. I know it is a pain...

How long do I keep her separate?

There are some great quarantine threads here...could be as little as a couple weeks, up to a month....however, better minds than mine prevail....do a little search to get better info!

The good thing is you already have a wonderful set-up with that great dog kennel...ultimately when she is better she could go in a garage...in that set-up...for the quarantine period...

So the quarantine is because this could spread to the other hens? It's probably bacterial since it seems to be responding to the Baytril is my thinking

Eta-so she might still be able to spread it even though she's been on the meds?

Exactly...you do not want whatever it is to spread to the entire flock...can be like a wildfire...

So if it is bacterial, it is like the doctor saying "take all your meds even if you feel better". In your hen's case, quarantine her even if she seems better...what I learned is that animals will hide their illnesses, it is hard to judge so the correct course is quarantine as in better safe than sorry.

okie doke will do! I think we will put her in our attached garage right off the kitchen, that way she's close...mu hubby will be thrilled! He's like soooo how long will this chicken be in our bathroom? LOL! I was like wellllll, I don't exactly know, so this will make him happy because she is kind of stinky
