What the hole!

It’s very likely it could be a rodent if it was a smaller hole. Mice enjoy snacking on dropped chicken feed or leftovers. The plus side of rodents are that chickens can eat these animals whole if small enough rather than a snake that can cause damage. The down side is that they breed like crazy and can become a huge issue if population is not controlled or terminated.

You need a pen skirt. It's wire mesh, or welded wire that is stapled to the outside of the coop, and goes out about 2.5 to 3 feet out from the coop, laid down about 1 - 2 feet under the ground. It prevents predators from digging into the coop. The grass grows back in rather quickly, so don't concern yourself about it. Don't use chicken wire, as it's not strong enough.

:welcome :frow Do you have a picture you can post? Also where are you located?
I have game cameras up on my property. There have been times when I have wondered and there is the culprit in a picture. Often times the predator will be back for another try.

Welcome to BYC! @Big eyes.
Your thread title cracked me up!
Yes, pic of hole with something for scale like a coin.

...and....
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!
