What the right % of protein for laying chickens

Hi I want to know what is the right % of protein for chickens am feeding mine 16% pallets mix with 24% chick starter and am picking a lot of eggs but am not sure if its to much protein and my chickens might get sick can somebody help me please

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! For laying hens they should be on a 16% protein diet. You won't get them sick by too much protein you will just make them too fat to keep egg laying numbers up. They'll become a meat bird. Egg layers need wide hips yet lean.

I wish someone would have a word with my commercial dual purpose birds - "lean" - they don't know the meaning of the word!!
