How long did it take you to contact the local breeder after that conversation? This was today (not verbatim, but you get the idea):
Hubby: "I didn't realize just how small Chedda is until we put her out there with the big ducks. They're like 5x her size."
Me: "Yup."
Hubby: "I think she was scared with all those big animals looking at her."
Me: "I'm sure she was terrified."
Hubby: "I don't think it's going to work to put her with the big ducks."
Me: "Nope. Me neither."
Hubby: "Maybe we should get another Call duck. You know, so she will have someone her same size."
Me (doing mental cartwheels and fist pumps): "That's not a bad idea. Are you thinking we'd keep them in the front yard with the Polish?"
Hubby: "Yeah. I really don't see how else we can make it work."
Me: "I think you just solved the Cheddar problem!"

25 years of marital bliss and you learn a lot about how your "other" half thinks.Wow.
Why not the two year old call hen? I agree they will need time to integrate and a drake isn’t the best choice.Getting a lil anxious, here (What? Auntie? Never!). I go back to work soon, and I'm still waiting to hear back from the local breeder who has the exact age/sex of Call duck I want. It's time for the fair here, so I'm sure she's busy with that.
I found 2 other gals. One is local, but only has a drake, but he's the same age as Cheddar. The other gal has either 2 week old ducklings or a 2 yr old hen.
Should I wait until the fair is over (1 more week), or opt for one of the others? I'd prefer a hen since they will likely be housed with chickens.
The only reason I'm thinking about the other options is because I'd like lots of time to integrate a new duck before goi g back to work.
What do y'all think?
