May I have your opinion please?

We got this EE and another at approx 6 weeks old. Introduced to the flock no troubles. Her counterpart is laying green eggs 3-4 days a week. Yet this hen nothing. She is kinda a loner. Eats & drinks plenty, roosts with the other chickens every night. Seems normal enough?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My 14 month old EE laid eggs every day from 6 months until 1 year, and hasn't laid an egg since March 1. She eats and drinks normally, but is also kind of a loner. Not sick, just no eggs. I'm puzzled too.

Funny you say that.... My EE Daisy May isnt laying yet and she is almost 7 months old. The other girls in that flock that are the same age have been laying almost two months now. I was wondering the same thing. I thought that I had heard they are slower to start laying than other breeds but not sure. Daisy May is my most friendly chicken of them all but no pretty colored eggs yet!

Is it safe to say she will never lay a egg? I am only allowed 8 hens, so I am about ready to give her up.

I wish I knew, this is my first year with chickens so I am learning as I go. Is there any one out there that can answer that one??????
Here is a picture of Daisy May. She was younger here.

And here she is now.

I hope she is not a Roo, but no crowing or eggs!

I would isolate the hen to be sure she's not laying. You may be expecting green eggs and she's laying cream, something like that. Just to rule out anything before you let go of a possibly good hen.

Do your birds free range? Could she be hiding a nest somewhere?

Could you post a pic of her, especially her comb? Is her comb nice a red and plump, like she should be laying?

I prob should separate her. They free range about 4-5 hours everyday, but she's never "missing" to close too the feed bin for that.
I have a small backyard flock of 9 which 6 are old enough to lay. I'm 95% confident she is not but it maybe worth a try.
Here she is today: sunning herself

its possible her internal wood work is not quite right
I think you maybe correct. In some of my research we found that sometimes you just have a hen that won't lay? I wish there was a way of knowing.

And now my NHR hasn't been laying either. Her bottom is red has been for a couple of weeks. Gave her a bath and that seemed to soothe it but now she is limping? but I can't see anything wrong with her leg. I hope its not internal.

I have 6 old enough layers with only 4 (RIR, bantam cochin, EE, old english game hen) being productive. And 3, buff cochin, egyptian( both 16 weeks) and blue andalusian(18 weeks) on the first egg list.

I hope its nothing serious with Alana my NHR, and I like LyNard, she is pretty and fun, but we are looking for more results. :(
