If caught soon enough and treated with proper antibiotics it is treatable. I've successfully treated a few, but I've lost a few too.

Oh! I thought once lash material appeared the infection was gone too far already to actually cure it! I learn lots of things new everyday, thank you Casportpony!

Alright then... going to keep thinking positively... I’ve ordered it, went with the USPS priority international shipping options (so I’m hoping that will speed up the delivery process!) We will see if it can still get through the border...
It wasn’t a huge lash egg, so maybe she’s still got a shot at another couple of years! Hoping to start treatments soon!

She produced one more lash egg, smaller, since yesterday... today I just vaselined the bad toe again and the little bit of dark scale still on the rear toe. She’s acting normal... feisty and walking around just fine now. If it wasn’t for the lash eggs I’d feel super about how far she’s come. Here’s a better look at the toe today:

She’s a spunky little thing, that’s for sure. I tried to feel if there was anything off about her lower belly area, but I don’t really know what I’m looking for.

Cup your hand from under her vent to down between her legs, (that sounds obscene), to feel for any swelling of belly. Ascites(accumulation of fluid in abdomen common with many organ diseases/failures) will feel like a water balloon. It's hard to describe and you may need to compare several birds, but once you've felt it you'll never forget it.

@Kris5902 thanks so much for the continued updates. I’m simply amazed at how well the feet and skin look! Poor girl has come such a long way, I sure hope it doesn’t end because of an egg laying issue. Whatever happens, she will definitely know she was cared for and loved.

Looking good today... no lash eggs yet, but I checked on her earlier than usual as we are heading into town for hay and shopping and might not get back until 10pm. We had a nasty drought last year and were short 800-1000 bales. I’m going to hit the pet stores and see what I can dredge up there drug wise.

Some hopefully good news. The Farm owner is looking into “establishing a working relationship” with a large animal vet... if they will service our area (it’s like 3 ferries for them, or two ferries and 3 hours highway driving) wish us luck! I proposed breaking out the pour on cattle ivermectin from last spring for them, if she’s willing to sacrifice the eggs for a few weeks, and it sounds like she’s considering it...

If I get the go ahead there’s going to be full pedicures on everyone, I’ll give them a good soaking, nail trims, Vaseline and hit them with the ivermectin all at once, and will also put Tippie back into the coop with them, she’s in the front part of the coop right now, and seems a little lonely sometimes... if her time is going to be shorter than I’d like at least she can be happy and flock again.

So today’s pedicure went great! I’m going to call the feet “healed” her leg scales still need a bit more cleaning and such but I’m happy with where we are at. I got all the remaining black bits off, they were all dead scales, and the toes underneath look good. Yay for not having to amputate any toes!!!

The skin underneath is raw, but healthy and not broken.

So now it’s just the lash egg situation... still no mail yet, so no meds. No lash material from yesterday that I could find. Her belly feels normal, compared to the other chickens I molested today... nobody is very happy with me ATM. She was doing a weird twerking thing and looking like she wanted to produce something, then she had some explosive diarrhea as soon as we put her down. I gave her a couple of mealworms and boy, oh boy did that improve her feelings towards me!

Thank goodness she waited until you put her down..she must not be too mad at you,
and I'm sure the MW should keep it that way!!
