A bit of background before I start. I have 6 fully grown ducks of various ages and are all laying. I just ordered 10 Jersey Giant Chicks and I have some questions. I have heard about the Purina flock raiser but can I give it to these baby chicks right away? Can I give them the layer feed I give the ducks? Because they are Jersey Giants will they need calcium supplements or anything like that? Please don't think im a bad chicken owner because of these basic questions. I just really want to get it right.

They should not have layer feed until they start laying. I use all flock for all my animals and add oyster grit for the ones that are laying.

I give all my chickens Purina Flock Raiser from Day 1 and throughout their lives, as do many others on BYC. Laying hens get oyster shell on the side.

I also feed all my chickens Flock Raiser from hatch, with separate oyster shell for the laying hens.
Two concerns may influence this plan;
If the mill dates are old on this diet where you shop, and you can't get fresh, see what else is available in an all flock feed.
If you have issues with coccidiosis in your chicks, or don't know, feeding them an amprolium medicated chick starter (the chicks only) will be prudent for eight to ten weeks.
