What to use at crease at hinge?

I'm thinking about using the inner bike tube method. For those of you that have done it, in addition to fastener hardware (screws/nails), does anything have to be used on the upper portion to keep water from seeping in between the rubber and the wall (like caulk)? Will I be able to get away with not using caulk?
