What treat did your chickies get today?

Your birds need grit if they get anything other than their basic crumbles. You can mix a bag 0f grit according to the ratio on the bag with your feed, or provide it in a separate container. Depending on the age of your birds, be sure to get the right size grit. I throw a bag of sand in the run and let them scratch, and dust, and eat it as well, but you don't have to.

My local feed store mixed me a small bag of grit and oyster shells. With only 2 hens, we didn;t need to bags of each.
I cooked the girls som spiral noodles today. The wouldn't touch em!
Loved the mellon! I also hung a small head of cabbage in the run. So far they just kind of look at it funny....

2 Brahma hens, gonna lay SOON!

This morning ours had a heated panful of the last of our summer greenbeans, seasoned with bacon and onion. We had enjoyed them earlier and the hens loved them on this chilly day. Later they had BOSS and scratch tossed in their chickenyard for morning peck 'n scratch fun. This evening, they all ran to the house at free range time for some tossed bread scraps and green grapes. In between they gobbled their layer mash with Calf Manna additive for additional protein. They do pretty well around here:) ~G

Hubby trimmed the fat off several pieces of thick bacon. Diced into little bits the girls snarf it right down! Also they picked clean a couple pork chop bones.
Tomorrow they're getting the remains of fried chicken (gasp!) and an old piece of cornbread cassarole from the fridge cleanout.

For 18 hens: 12 plum tomatoes, one pumpkin, and 20 bananas. I cut these up and fed it to them throughout the day.

I live near a wholesale produce company and get a " run" at their toss outs. The items are still very good except cosmetically they won't sell.

For the past 4 days my 13 chickens (11 hens, 1 pullet, & 1 RIR roo) have been getting the guts and peelings of the pumpkins that I have been processing for Pumpkin Pie filling.

With lettuce, tomatoe, and cabbage on the side. Plus when it's not raining I grab some yummy branches from bushes to put in a concrete block for them to jump off and pick off like they could do if I let them freerange.

I just wish they would lay. I haven't gotten an single egg since late September.

I was a very bad and mean mama today, and my girls didn't get anything but layer pellets. I might let them have an afternoon of freedom tomorrow. I know that they need it. It has been so grey here. I also hope it isn't going to be pouring rain. No matter what they will get scratch and boss, and some grapes tomorrow.

My 2 girls had banannas for breakfast! The really liked it!
I mixed it with shreaded coleslaw mix and a bit of scratch.
Went over LOTs better than the spiral noodles.
