What treat did your chickies get today?

So I came up with a healthy snack for my babies. I freeze portions so I can take it out whenever. They barely let it thaw before it's gone. My babies are 3 weeks old and love it, I'm sure those old enough to lay will too.

I didn't really measure so these are just estimates, so add more or less depending on what your girls like.

Fresh pumpkin seeds and flesh about 6 cups
2 cups shelled sunflower seeds
2 cups organic chick starter
2 cups old fashioned oats
Dollop of molasses
Little bit of water

Put the pumpkin seeds, oats, sunflower seeds in a food processor until small bits. Put in bowl

Next put the Pumpkin in, add a little water so that it chops up well.

Add the Pumpkin to the seeds, mix in chick starter, and a small amount of molasses. Mix it all up and freeze portions.

I used an ice cream scoop and sandwich bags, worked great.

This is for babies, I'll probably change it some when they are bigger.

Chicken Muffins...
I added ground up oyster and egg shells, strawberry/banana yogurt, scratch, mash and wild bird seed. Baked at 350 for 20 min, then froze so they last for ever...

Today, my chickens got some grub.... literally!
After we got our first freeze a few day ago, I had cut down a bunch of dead okra plants from the garden, and this morning before going to work, I took out the chickens to the garden plot and started turning over the dirt with a shovel, and the chickens feasted on those white grubs... I think they are junebug grubs. They loved them. Its so funny how they got so eager every time I pushed the shovel into the dirt, and would sometime stand on top of the dirt as I was trying to lift it up. My 4 hens must have eaten at least 50 or more grubs this morning.
I think those grubs eat plant roots, so its a good thing I'm getting rid of them before I replant.

50!!!!! wow.. I will be placing our small coop over our garden beds so they can free-grub all they want, while they compost all the beds.
