What treat did your chickies get today?

Yes, Violet leaves are fine for hens and goats, as well. Our critters get their "salad bowl" of them every day as a treat.
Had 9 eggs hatch under a broody hen yesterday and into today. Mother is Fr. Black Copper Maran and so is Father, but she also talked a few friends into laying in her nest, so we have some Americauna/Maran crosses, too. Cute as a button!!!

Oops....sent too soon....sorry. Meant to add I always make the hatching/broody hen a post hatch meal of cooked oatmeal, corn meal, molasses and raisins for her hard efforts. The hens love it and quickly share it with their clutch.

I have never given hard boiled eggs to my flock, but it sounds interesting. How often do they get this.....as a treat, only or as a staple? Is there a special purpose? Thanks!

I give the adults eggs all the time, they love them!! I give it as a treat, and not every day. You have to make sure they do not look like eggs when you feed them, so smash it up first. It is good for them!

Mine got a small head of cabbage for the first time. Let's see what happens.

Cabbage leaves, sauerkraut, and chocolate cake!

I chocolate "good" for chickens? I was always told it was very bad for cats and dogs, so I made the assumption it, too, would be bad for other animals, but I see I could be incorrect. Do you often give chocolate whatever? No side effects?
