I like to give a suet cake in the winter. MMMM yummy.
Also, the old stand by mealies. Can't beat 50% protein and 20% fat.

It's been pretty cold actually VERY cold here since Christmas... So the girls this morning are getting a nice warm meal of milk with oatmeal black sunflower seeds and a drizzling of bacon grease...

I've noticed these large holes in the dirt under my raised coop and got the shovel out to investigate. What I found where these large 2" grubs. After Google'ing them they are Green Fruit Beetle larvae aka June Bugs around here. Needless to say my hens and ducks love them. I harvest only a few at a time and watch the girls frenzy over them.

mine get cooked cold brown rice as a standard treat and today they had some dried meal worms which they totally love. 19 chickens running in opposite directions with meal worms in their beaks. on seriously hot days like today and this whole week i give grapes and baby tomatoes out the fridge they love those too!
