What treat did your chickies get today?

They got spoiled today. I moved a stump into their run that was full of earwigs, we have 2 stumps and I rotate them :). They also got watermelon, grapes, lettuce, and ..... chicken! Lol

I picked a cucumber and tomato for MY salad and placed them on the picnic table as I refilled water bowls. When I turned around the hens were devouring them. Good treat for them but I didn't have another ripened tomato for me!
oh no! haha lesson learned I suppose!

I have been feeding mine chickencicles!

Every night I put some fruit, veggies, (whatever) into a bread pan about an inch high, cover with a little water and put it in my freezer. Then about 2 each afternoon when its 98 degrees outside, I pop it out for them and they get their chickencicles! I think they are beginning to expect it!

I haven't given it to them yet, but I have applesauce on today's menu.

My girls are called the divas by my better half, since they are spoiled and expect their treats. Everyday they receive oatmeal with shelled sunflower seeds, as well as a slice of watermelon. I have also started a mealworm farm and I'm trying fodder.

I've been doing this too. Today it's blueberry ice.
And yes, those chickens are always schooling me.

I think my husband feels the same way! I go to the grocery store and buy watermelon - just for my girls! lol I'm always spoiling them with a variety of treats. When I come outside, they come running to me all excited. When hubby steps out, they run away! hahaha I'll have to read up on mealworms. Sounds like something interesting to get into. The dried mealworms at tractor supply are so expensive - considering the amount of birds I have to give snacks to!

I have 15 girls and at the rate they were going thru worms it seemed like a good idea to try to raise worms. Mine like the dried ones ok, but obviously prefer the live worms. I pick up a watermelon every week for the girls, and they start talking the moment they hear the door open. They really enjoy the oatmeal with sunflower seeds, and are eating about 2 cups of cooked oatmeal a day. They love corn on the cob, I've just wanted to stay clear of corn. My worms haven't gone thru an entire life cycle yet so I don't know if it worked or not, so far no beetles.
