Mine got leftover green beans, watermelon seeds, and whatever else was in the bottom of the compost pail, along with their fermented feed which I topped off with plain yogurt and cantaloupe. As they were not inclined to leave their coop at 5:30am, which is what time I had to go out and feed them in order to get to work early today, I didn't get to see them attack their food but I'm pretty sure when I get home this evening there won't be anything left but a few melon rinds that have been pecked clean.
As for someone's question a page back regarding feeding potatoes and tomatoes. I don't feed my chickens the tomato or potato plants however, they routinely get all the damaged or overly ripe tomatoes from my garden and they get cooked potatoes. I haven't had any raw potatoes to feed them but it's my understanding that it is only the green peeling that you need to worry about. The most fun I have is to throw cherry tomatoes into the run and watch them play their version of chicken rugby with them. I watched one of my hens literally knock another one down to get the tomato the other day. Hilarious and free entertainment!
