What treat did your chickies get today?

Mine went crazy over the kiwi berries! A first time hit. Love them myself.

Also was delighted the big chain grocery store gave me 4 bunches of OG red chard slightly funky. But picked through it and got a bunch of great chard for the pullets.

Girls also got cauliflower, cooked sweet potatoes and peas.

new to the chicken world. Is there a food that should not be given to chickens? what about black sunflower seeds? thanks 1212

The Chicken Chick has a couple of myths and facts on chicken treats [http://www.communitychickens.com/top-5-myths-and-facts-about-treats-for-chickens/] in which she mentions:

"Chickens can eat the flesh of avocado. However, avocado pits and skin contain persin, which can be toxic in significant quantities." and
"Chickens can eat onions, chives and garlic in
small quantities, occasionally. Sufficient quantities of onion and garlic can be harmful to chickens, causing hemolytic anemia, aka: Heinz anemia, a blood condition resulting in chickens with weak legs, listlessness and a disheveled appearance. Bottom line: if I’m not going to eat a bowl of raw onions, chives or garlic, I’m not going to feed it to my chickens as a side dish."

BYC has a good chicken treat chart:

yesterday was potatoes, french green beans, lima beans , 3 ears of corn cooked , and 3 slices of bread.

@cfjurgens The 2 little girls eating watermelon are Easter Eggers. The white and orange/red one layed an Olive colored egg and the Dark one layed me 1 pretty super blue egg before she passed away (eggbound).
