What treat did your chickies get today?

Today mine got a well rounded Sunday Brunch, that will carry over into tomorrow...

4 loaves of bread
5 dozen whole grain English muffins
1 head of cauliflower
1 package of turkey dogs
3 coffee cakes
1 five gallon bucket of apples
400 give or take scrambled eggs

1000

**If one is curious as to why so many eggs, it was simply time to rotate the backlog of stock, between getting ready for vacation, taking a vacation and settling back in after the vacation we had an excess of eggs backing up and running out of storage space...

I'm just curious what size pot you cooked 400 eggs in LOL

400 large eggs is about 5 gallons, my eggs are a mix of sizes including some bantams so it was closer to 4+ gallons...

I cooked them in the same pot pictured, that pot is a liner to a 22 quart 'turkey roaster' put it on medium heat and let it cook away stirring frequently... I purchased it years ago when I used to make my own dog food, mostly just sits around now...

700

Mixed leaf lettuce, corn and some leftover roast pork.

Because I am obviously a glutton for punishment, I also gave them some potatoes, peas, carrots and broccoli to which they gave me a look which suggested "While we admire your persistence and give you points for trying .. we are still NOT going to eat those"

Sorry, I can not remember who asked the question regarding Vegemite V Marmite but this might be interesting reading:

Vegemite, Marmite and Promite are all yeast extracts and basically all the same, but: Marmite is sweeter than vegemite Promite is sweeter then marmite They're all extremely salty tasting.

Or, Vegemite is very salty, marmite slightly less so. Promite is considerably less salty.

They all use caramel for the dark colouring, and it's probably this part which contributes to the war. Marmite is considerably sweeter (and darker) than Vegemite, while Promite is sweeter still.

Vegemite eaters will generally tolerate Marmite and Marmite eaters will tolerate Promite. Vegemite eaters find Promite sickly sweet.

Marmite eaters will not (usually) eat vegemite. It's too strongly flavoured for them as a general rule.

Promite is Australian (Masterfoods), but is gaining in popularity. There are very few exclusive Promite eaters, so conclusions can't be drawn, but I'd expect that Promite eaters would react to Marmite the same way that Marmite eaters react to Vegemite.

Marmite is made by Sanitarium Health Food company.

Vegemite is made by multi-national food company Kraft General Foods NZ Ltd.

None of these spreads should be spread thickly. Discolouration of the underlying bread/toast is all that's necessary.

Do not get any of these spreads on your fingers if there are domestic animals around, especially cats. They all love the stuff and will try to lick you clean. Enthusiastic felines will sometimes try to remove your digits too...

Hey Spartan22 the Use By date should probably be on the bottom of the jar and that is also probably a Best Before date ... I have seen opened Vegemite sitting in a cupboard for quite a while and it is still OK .. it is like axle grease; never ages

Mine love tomatoes and safflower seeds. They will take any fruits tossed to them but I was wondering if cranberries woukd be ok. I have some dried ones.

Yesterday the girls got oatmeal with raisins, cranberries, ground kelp, and a little yogurt mixed in. Yummy stuff. Later in the day they got a suet feeder filled with apple, cabbage, zucchini, and corn on the cob. Right before bed, a handful of mealworms and cracked corn.
