What treat did your chickies get today?

While reading all the delicious treats we give our birds, I noticed several mentioned "BOSS". Not wanting my girls to go without, what is it and where can I buy it? My birds prefer scratch to anything else! I also soften dry dogfood with water, smash with a potatoe masher and give it to them. The love it.

I put down a small plate of leftover chicken chow mein (had mixed emotions here) and it was gone in a few seconds.

For my 2 spoiled rotten Cochin Bantam hens:

Breakfast: Chopped broccoli - Sliced table grapes - a little corn sliced from the cob (but not too much, it's fattening) - Dandelion greens - Water cress - Sliced Brussel Sprouts - Apples - Flax Meal - Finally a pinch of ground up egg shells.

Treats: White unsalted sunflower seeds - a little Smallbatch

raw cat food for the protein.

[Yeah I admit it - I love my girls more than anything!]

I hit the jackpot at the farmer's market this week. There was a guy selling Turnip Greens for a whole walmart sack full for $1. I have been chopping up a whole bucket full for two days now, and haven't even put a dent into the bag. Also, they get cracked corn and BOSS daily.

BOSS is Black Oil Sunflower Seeds. I buy mine at Tractor Supply, but if I can't get to TS, I buy them at Walmart (in the bird seed isle in the garden center). They are cheaper at TS.

I think I am fixing to go cook some pasta to mix with their Turnip greens today.

well mine had leftover mash potatoe and cheese on toast bits, tomatoes, mealworms and sunflower hearts i just cant help spoiling them (only afternoons though) lol

I didn't see anyone answer OESDOG's question. Yes it is OK to feed them fish scraps and prawn (shrimp?) shells. Just fresh, not spoiled. My flock LOVES the aftermath of a fishing trip.
