I’m debating on starting to put sand in my coop instead of using the dirt floor due to how muddy it gets. I am curious to what type of sand I should use?
Thanks for the help.

I have a hoop coop and only part of it is covered. When it rains the half that isn’t covered can stay muddy for a while since it’s under a tree.Your coop is muddy?
Is there water leaking in somehow?
Are they good with drainage? Is it something I would have to add too often?I would say that wood chips from a tree service or natural mulch or pine straw would be better options than sand.
I felt like I had to add shavings every time I turned around because of how wet and gross it got. I may just cover the other half.Sand is good in a DRY coop. If outdoors and wet, it gets stinky. I’d use shavings…
Do you get standing water in the hoop when it rains?I have a hoop coop and only part of it is covered. When it rains the half that isn’t covered can stay muddy for a while since it’s under a tree.
