What was your high school like?

I too went to a private high school for girls. It is not a boarding school, but a lot of girls drove an hour or more daily to get there.

I was able to pay the tuition because at the time my dad had been declared invalid, and because I was a minor child, I was able to receive a supplemental income. I was the only girl I knew who knew exactly how much tuition, books and uniforms cost.

My graduating class was about 63 girls. Most everyone was nice. A lot of rich kids of course, but quite a few middle class and lower middle class girls attended as well.

While it was a good experience I always felt out of place and insecure, because most of the girls had gone to school together about their whole lives, or families had known each other forever.

I left public school because I felt I was falling through the cracks.

I have not been able to attend any class reunions, because I have always had other committments. I am not too terribly sure I really would want to attend one. I have only seen a few of the people in the 27 years since graduating, and if I did attend, would that really mean much to me? Probably not...

My highschool was like Potterwatch's.... except that it was all girls and Catholic! I went to public school my whole life but my older sister got in trouble two years ahead of me so they moved her over to the Catholic high School and decided that innocent Nancy should start out there as a freshman too.... grrrrrr

Quite the culture shock but it turned out okay in the long run I guess. I was the last graduating class though as we closed the school down!

We had only 83 students graduate in '83. Now my highschool is part of Mercy San Juan Hospital.

It was always odd to see highschools on tv that were only one building when all I knew were
campus type...

I hated high school! I went to Green Valley High School in Henderson, NV for my freshman and sophomore years. Shortly after starting my freshman year, I told my counselor I needed to know what do to graduate early. Everyone was classified by group (jock, preppy, nerd, stoner, skater, etc) and/or class levels (remedial, regular, honors, AP, IB). Then, to top it off, we had a bunch of rich kids who thought they were above everyone else because their parents had money. I was an honors student (didn't want to take AP or IB) and played the violin in the orchestra and flute in the musical's orchestra pit. My junior year I was accepted into a county-funded community college/HS program and received my diploma (1999) from the CC. HS was miserable.

My brother was home-schooled from 7th grade through HS and was much happier.

For any youngsters reading this post...college is MUCH better than HS!

aint that the truth? Whats even funnier is when we returned from Germany in 1981 - we were already WEARING jellies and those parachute pants that didnt come into fashion here in the US until about 3 years later

Everyone kept saying "What ARE you wearing?"

Of course.. we looked at them like "And you're wearing....whats a Jordache?"

I went to a rural private school, graduating class of 63 people. It was a very cliqueish class/school and I was thrilled to get out of it and not have to go back. No fond memories here.

I went to high school in Germany during the cold war days. We had armed MPs on our buses and the bomb threats we had were real. Our school had a main building and several auxillary buildings (not portables). There was a cafeteria but I think I only went in it twice for yearbook photos. There was a bowling alley where we usually went for lunch on the same post as the school and we would go off post to local streetside markets or to the next post which had a Burger King and shopette. Our spring break went to USSR and we had a drill meet in West Berlin. The school closed a few years after I graduated and the post has been turned over to the Germans after the wall came down.

(sigh) Our 20 year reunion will be held in Dallas this summer... I'm not quite sure if I want to go or not. There is only a handful of people I've been in touch with over the years and they are scattered all over hell's half acre anyway.
