What went wrong?pag 2 +3 THEORYS? ANYONE

It doesn't have to be ON the eggs to be IN the eggs. Water that condensates in the eggs air cell is what will drown the chicks when they pip. They pip into the air cell and instead of a breath of air they get a nostil full of water. They drown.

If you have condensation on the windows it is relatively high. At 70% in my hova there is no condensation. At 85% + there is. That is too high for text book chicken hatching.

If I were you I might would open a vent and let some of the moist air out.

Okay, thanks.

I have both vents open because today is hatch-day, most of what is left on the window is the "puddles" left from the condensation. I appreciate it MissPrissy.

Thanks SCHMITTY. Yeah I am trying to figure this out so it doesnt keep happening. How is your little one? I had one like that that after 2 days was just fine.

Your humidity was a little low the first 18 days? I try to keep mine 45-50% then on day 18 raise it to 65-70%.
Here is a printout of what could have happen. Not sure but sorry they didn't make it.

Troubleshooting: Specific Problems

Sign: Pipped. Full-term embryo, dead in shell. Causes:

Low humidity or temperature for a prolonged period.

Low humidity during hatching.

High temperature during hatching.

Nutritional deficiencies.

Breeder diseases.

Poor ventilation.

Inadequate turning during first 12 days.

Injury during transfer.

Prolonged egg storage.

Sign: Shell partially pipped, embryo alive or dead. Causes:

See 8.a-i.

Excessive fumigation during hatching.

Eggs set small end up.

Chicks that fully form but none hatch or pip:

Temp setting too extreme

Sudden and prolonged temp change at time of hatch

Insufficient oxygen

thanks guys I think I am getting a clue:

I will work on enough oxygen and ventilation, then when I was getting temp spikes I set the temp at 99.5 but it would go down to 99.1 sometimes, I just got a new wafer and a new thermostat, I need to get my humidity up more the first 18 days and keep it below 70 after that, make sure I turn them enough, and I think I will lay them on their sides instead of in the egg cartons.

TOH "sudden and prolonged temp change at time of hatch" - yea I just made that new hatcher and I dont think it was stable enough, its still running and TOH "Insufficient Oxygen" - I am putting more ventilation holes in it
it

Day 18 for some blue orps tomorrow!!!
