What were they thinking?????

When we bought our home the hardwood floors in the living room were all painted hot pink!

You did a great job on the cabinets. The nice thing about having to fix up a house is that when you finally get everything done the way you want it, it will really feel like YOUR home - not someone else's.

I wish I could post pictures of what our house looked like when we moved in 22 years ago. Orange countertops. Ugly dark green/yellow carpet in the kitchen. Kitchen walls painted various ugly shades of green. Grey shag carpet upstairs. I could go on and on. The people who owned our place before we did were plain...weird, irresponsible.

Crazy4chicks, you did a really good job turning those cabinets from something ugly to something beautiful.

I don't think decorative taste has made it as far as the ranch yet. Some people have imported it, others think they have. When we moved into this house, the bathroom had a forest green sponge effect on a white background over every surface. It would give you a seizure if you looked at it too long. The floor was blue, and the toilet and sink are yellow.

Two of the bedrooms were painted with a dark blue band around the bottom up to about 3', then a foot or so of white, then another smaller band of blue. And our front room had 70s wallpaper that was metallic gold, bronze and copper maple leaves overlayed.

The house next door is far worse though. The daughter's bedroom has alternate walls of brown and fuschia, with a light fitting made up of several small lampshades covered in zebra, leopard and giraffe print, with jade green fur around the bottom  They painted over the light switch plates in every room, and they are now chipping and scratching and look horribly tacky. And when they painted the kitchen dark green and the hallway bright red, they slipped and painted the ceiling and just left it that way.

The worst is a now abandoned house, I wonder why! One bedroom is chartreuse with an orange sponge effect over the top. Another is purple, and the third is lime green.

We're moving to a bigger house here in a month or so, and luckily with the exception of the sponge stencilled purple and pink butterflies and flowers in one bedroom, the rest of it is painted boring old white. I think my husband needs that room as his man cave.

we got pretty lucky here and the blue cabinets was the worst thing to deal with the rest of the rooms are fine - the bedroom is boring white, but the carpet has red kool-aid stains so as soon as I figure out what carpet I want that will get changed. the bathroom had the same 70's wallpaper that was in part of the kitchen and was the frist room I painted and decorated ( it has frogs in there drives my DH crazy ), his mancave room is white and that is going to be turned into a green color to match his Nascar driver Dale Jr. new colors, the hallway and livingroom have those brown " tralier" walls which are now a light crountry blue.

I have started painting the hinges on the cabinets to match the handles and they really look great.

It really scares me to think of what these people did to the house they moved into from here LOL

What a difference a can of paint can do. Your kitchen looks so warm and sunny now. You were brave to even take a pic of that blue! Great job.

Good job on the cabinets! I too like the open look above the stove but, I would consider doing what my Grandmother had, glass doors. It would keep the grease and dust off whatever you put in there. Hers had just a small framework to attach the glass, hinges, knobs to and the rest was clear glass.
Good luck with the floor.
