What would the death rate be for 16 ordered chicks?

I going to order 15 bantam cochins and 1 silkie from Ideal. These are the varieties of cochin: 1 red frizzle, 2 white frizzles, 2 red, 3 white, 3 SL, 2 blue, and 2 buff. If I want to be able to breed pure white, red, and SL, should I order more, or is the death rate low enough that I should have enough of each (I mostly plan to cross the blue and buff). Also, are silkies generally hardy or weak, or is it a case-by-case basis?

It's going to be a case by case basis depending on the shipping conditions. Ordered 19 birds from ideal, 2 days in transit, all survived their trip to western WA. I've found silkies to be pretty hardy my self.

It usually takes just over 3 weeks... unless they have cancellations.

That also depends on when you order them for and when you place your order. I ordered my birds in January for a March delivery purposefully to try and get into better weather for the best chick shipment survival chance.

Do you know how long it takes Ideal to ship from the time you order to the time they arrive?

It depends on what you order and when they will have it available. I placed an order on Saturday and it shipped yesterday. If you order online, there is a place where you request a delivery date. I'm sure they will ask if you order by phone.

If I were to place the order today and request delivery for next Monday, would the chicks arrive on that day?

Highly unlikely unless you lucked into them having the chicks you want ready to hatch on Friday, which I believe would be the date needed to get to you on a Monday (I don't think most places ship over the weekend though).

Ordering now, you're probably going to be waiting a while before they come.

I don't think you could recieve them on a Monday. I know they ship out on Mondays. I would call to ask. I got the bantam special, so they were chicks that Ideal hatched that no one bought. If you have certain breeds you want, it would depend on their availabilty as to the earliest shipping date.

Last year I ordered 10 silkies and lost 0 ... this time I ordered 12 silkies and lost 3... the first time it wasn't cold( october) this last time it was cold( feb.)
