I got two packages in the mail the other day, one, my silhouette, from cuntryuppie chick, the other from a photography service sending graduation pics of my oldest, both packages very clearly labeled DO NOT BEND. Of course they were both bent and stuffed into the mail box so the carrier wouldn't have to drive up the drive. Bastards. I'm hoping it wasn't the regular lady but a substitute driver or something but still, there's no excuse for this. I'm guessing they made it through the postal system nice and flat.

I have not had a huge problem with breakage, on the eggs sent to me....I have more of the scrambled air cell issue. I just candled my July swap eggs..and all from one sender, has scrambled air cells, and NO development at all.

I think this may be a good solution. I got eggs last year that arrived just like you explain in your post. The box of eggs was taped within the post office tote and delivered to me in the tote with a note asking to return the tote to the post office or sit beside my mail box once I removed my package. It was the best hatch that I ever got from shipped eggs. I guess we have to talk our local post office into placing our boxes into the totes.

Ayeupchuck - Your eggs are going out tomorrow. I will see if I can get my post office to use this method. Keep your fingers crossed.

Sorry that you got a smashed and cracked eggs. I put tons of bubble wrap in the box to help cushion the eggs. I sure hope the kids get some of those turkey poults they have been wanting. Keep me posted.

Hey-I mailed out a set of books, and 2-3 boxes of blackberry lilies last week and haven't heard from anyone. Did everything make it ok?

I had a thought while at Family Dollar today; would the PO let you mail a styrofoam cooler? They are kinda fragile and maybe they wouldn't try to use them for sporting events at the sorting table (they'd have to explain a cracked open container, wouldn't they?) I know they use them to ship lobsters in (I received some in a cooler once) Then maybe put all the markings you normally do on the cooler?

I think the service you are referring to is called "Special Handling" and the downfall to that is that additional $7+ fee for the service on top of the regular postage price.

I did see somewhere I believe here on BYC about that very service last year and those saying not to waist the $$..
