I have the SAME problem

I have to get serious also and start selling my excess. My problem is I want to keep the best to put back into my breeding pens and I know from past experience that sometimes that slow bloomer is the one that turns out the best.

On another subject, I have sent a ton of eggs out on the swap and was wondering how they are doing? The post office have really been delivering the eggs much faster with my new labels on the boxes but are the eggs doing better?

I'm trying to improve my flock so I pick out what appears to be the better quality ones and sell the rest. Out of the last 4 I've kept only 1 has survived. I lost some very nice silkie chicks. The 1 I have left is from my flock and a sizzle at that. Also when we knew we where gonna move but didn't know just where yet I started thinning down my flock and I sold the lesser quality ones. I went to a swap a few weeks later to sell off some chicks and I saw those adults I had sold and they looked awful. The man I sold them to apparently just buys and sells and don't take care of the birds like he said he was. He came a long way and got several birds. Acted like he was looking for certain color silkies and even jewed me down on price. Just to watch him sell them for what I originally asked him for and they where all dirty and crowed into cages with no room to move. I'll never sell him another bird ever.

I have terrible allergies, new ones every day it seems and the goats milk, store or home made, have never bothered me. My dh seems to have a thing for citrus so I avoid those for him.

Hello

No luck on any of the barnevelder eggs you sent. Might have been the trip here. I had 9 of 11 of my own laying breed eggs to hatch mixed in the bator. Maybe i can claim some more one day and try again. Thanks again for the eggs!

Going to give it till tomorrow as they hatched out yesterday. But the ones that are out are adorable! I'll take pics later!

Hi everybody! Right now I have some cross stitched pieces (bookmarks, fridge magnets, small pieces to be framed or used for crafting), goat's milk soaps, maybe some recipe books... I'll have to do an inventory and put it all on a page like some you did.

Wish I could free range my birds also. All the neighbors have dogs that free range (ours don't), wolves have taken our neighbors calves, lots of coyotes and fox and many feral cats - just to name a few. Just a recipe for disaster

Yikes!

I had a bunch of Barnevelders, some BBS Orps, English Orps and Golden Laced Orps hatch Sunday so I am still getting pretty good hatches at home. I have noticed that the English Orps do not have as high fertility as the American Orps so maybe too much fluff.

I personally have been having a really diffecult time getting the shipped eggs received to hatch. I had some Buckeye, Lav Orp, and a ? egg from Hot2Pot that made it to lock down and not one hatched. Opened them and fully formed chicks but no pip, however my eggs that were set with them hatched just fine. Very disappointing but I have more in the bator and more coming from Deb so I am still hopeful.

Groundpecker sorry that none of yours hatched. It is always disappointing not to get any to hatch.

AyeUpChuck - Glad you got a few Barnies to hatch. Hope the Orp hatches also.
