What's on it's eye?

Had a chicken hatch yesterday with this string like material attached to the corner of its eye.

In all my years of hatching ive never seen anytbing like this.

At first I just thought it was a fuzzy or something so I took a warm damp cotton pad and was able to get it into the corner and lifted away from the skin enough I could grab it. It definitely was attached. So I didn't want to hurt the chick and I just carefully trimmed it and left it alone.

But does anyone know what this is ? Or what / if I should do anything about it ?

Any advice would be greatly helpful !

(Its not touching the eye anymore, it just looks that way in the pics)

I would use some saline, Neosporin, or moisturizing eye drops into the eye to dampen it, see if it will lift off after a few minutes.
When I had the warm damp cotton pad on it for a few minutes, I tried to lift it off afterwards and it seemed to be attached from underneath the eyelid. Like when gently pulling on it, it was lifting the upper eyelid outward.

Looks like some kind of fuzz or something on the eye, it may be stuck to the crusty. If you will apply some ointment to the eye as suggested, this will help soften the crusty material so you can flush and remove the stringy material.

After you remove the material, flush well with saline.

Guys let me tell you mother nature never ceases to amaze me. Waited 36 hrs after chick hatched before making this post. And all I did after posting was use a warm compress on the eye. Honestly I thought I was making it worse. So I stopped and waited for you guys to reply.

I checked on the check about an hour later and it looked like it had gotten worse and I thought, well gosh, i'm just going to wait to see what people say.

I just went to check on the check again. Just now, and no lie, it looks like it's completely resolved itself all on its own! Those are the best kinds of problems, the ones that fix themselves lol .

*attached pics of it gotten worse, and now better it seems ! *

Guess it worked it self out of the eye on its own just like our bodies do when foreign bodies like slivers get in us.

Can you please recommend an ointment I can use thats safe? I'm unsure what to use . Thank you A
I'm glad the chick is doing better. I'd watch to see if the eye still has any crust or debris. If it does, flush with saline, then use your ointment in the eye.
