The first time my daughter saw Silkies she called them "alpaca chickens" because she thinks they look like alpacas. I have five now, two black, two splash, and one extremely proud of his crowing ability partridge roo named Harry (that was Harriet til he crowed) that I wouldn't trade for anything. I don't know how 'cute' they are, but they are interesting and don't look like "chickens" and I guess that's why I like them, because they are different. All of our chickens are Bantams and all rare or "odd" breeds. Silkies for eggs? Well, they lay eggs, that's about all I can say for them...ha...although one of my black Silkies lays a larger tan speckled egg, while all the rest lay a small white egg...you just never know. And one of them is just about always broody. Got a Splash in the nesting box right now.
And next week I'm getting Sultans, so I guess I really do like odd looking chickens.
