whats the deal with green or blue eggs?

I love the idea of coloring an egg. That could be hysterical.

My neighbor and I both have flocks and sell eggs. Hers are all brown egg layers, I have a mixed flock. She occasionally trades me for a doz blue or green eggs as her customers like the colors. I get a lot of comments from people who buy my eggs just because they're "pretty". No difference otherwise. I must admit that I like them too

. I'm hoping the Marans I was given contribute to the egg color variety

Sorry, but that bird is not an EE or an Ameraucana. There's a very good thread on here about the differences between the two. Do a search for it, will help you out greatly. You can check your local CL for EE's or even place a wanted ad here on byc. There's a lot of folks, myself included, that have them and you could order eggs or even chicks. Good luck and don't be too hard on your hubby, sounds like he just got overexcited, kinda like a little kid!! lol

My avatar is a basket of my EE eggs, brown eggs and Cuckoo Maran eggs, not the best pic, but you get the idea.

we have one that just might be an EE, but being new to this, we don't know breeds very well, what do you think? (I'll probably have to get a more recent photo, her head/neck feathers have turned a yellowish color)

Not an Ameraucana the legs are the wrong color a Ameraucana has slate legs, I have 3 EE bantams that lay blue eggs and one Ameraucana that lays blue eggs rest of mine are pink to brown I do not know why your Dh would be wanting a blue or green egg layer except they are cool in the egg basket. I would not give up any of my girls for just green or blue egg layers. even if they are pretty.

I really don't have anything to new to add, but agree with what everyone is commenting.

I have 4 girls. One lays white eggs, one lays brown eggs, one lays pastel blue eggs and the other lays pastel blue-green eggs. The 2 EEs don't lay as frequently as the other 2 girls and the eggs are slightly smaller. All the eggs taste the same. On the other hand, I enjoy the variety of color, as do the friends and family that I give extra eggs too.

EEs egg color isn't always going to be blue or blue-green. The chances of getting anything except white or brown are possible. Its part of the fun of it.

I say keep the chickens you have. Chances are that there may be some chickens in the mixed breed flock that carry the blue egg gene. Besides, you may very well have some roos that will need either rehoming or a trip to freezer camp (to make room for ones that do have the blue egg gene).

Well, there is nothing so special about blue/green eggs that would warrant re-homing an entire

flock to whom you and your children are attached!! And I have two EE's -- I wanted them, I wanted blue/green eggs... but you are right, somebody

was being selfish!

If he wants some EE's it might make sense to get a few chicks ... to incorporate them into your current flock.

Marans eggs. (It's always something!)

My egg customers always pick the green eggs before the brown hands down, one even swears they taste better. I love seeing the variety in my basket and that is why I just ordered 10 more girls!
Sorry but yours is not an EE, you may just have to get a few to appease the hubby.
