whats the deal with green or blue eggs?

There's nothing special abut blue or green (or brown or dark dark chocolate brown) eggs other than color. The blue/green/dark brown eggs are very exciting for many people simply because of the novelty. They're used to white or light-medium brown eggs, so the other colors seem much more exciting being something that they don't see every time they go to the grocery store. If things go according to plan, I suspect that in a few years my now 8mo. old son will find white eggs to be pretty exciting since all he'll get at home are colored eggs. Just so happens that none of the breeds that lay white eggs have really piqued my interest. Novel colored eggs are exciting, but they have their drawbacks too. Birds that lay blue or green eggs usually just lay a medium sized egg and they often aren't as great a layer as some of the brown egg layers.

If your hubby really wants blue/green eggs that badly, maybe you could come to some sort of compromise. Maybe add a few colored egg layers to the mixed flock. Or, if you don't have room to add extra chicks, maybe rehome a couple (2-4) of the mixed layers to make room for a few colored layers.

I just must have some for my egg basket I have pink to brown and blue, now I want those dark eggs and then I will get another green egg layer lost my only green egg layer last winter...any ideas.

I have EE's, only because I love the puffy cheeks and my pretty egg basket!

I have BCM, turkens, EE's, and leghorns for a nice variety of egg colors (chocolate, light tan, blue, green, and white) only for my own enjoyment. I loooove collecting eggs and arranging all the colors in my cartons and bowl

I am easily entertained, I guess!

Could be an EE mix (is that redundant?). We hatched off some eggs from different hens (RIR, EE, BO) and our rooster is a gorgeous EE. One of our chicks looks very much like yours. We think it's the EE/RIR mix. We even had one that is almost white with some grey barring on her wings. Not sure where that came from since we have no white hens.

look for any with pea combs those will be the most likely to have a blue or green egg gene. you could always just buy 2 pullets from someone as well that are the same age to make sure you have some.

its easy to get excited about the other colors but they are no different in taste or anything else

that's my thought on it, the color of the shell isn't that important to me, it's that big fat nutritious yolk is what I'm excited about, plus I'm in love with the idea of opting out of the commercial egg industry.

again, I'm a newbie at this so try not to laugh, but what does a pea comb look like?

For that matter, what does a rose comb look like?
