South Carolina, despite the name, can have icy winters. A few years ago I went out to start the car and slid about on all fours to get to the car. Determined to get to work, I started the car and slid my way back into the house to let the car get warm while I finished dressing for work.
Meanwhile my husband comes home from work with a newly-issued Highway Patrol car. He parks it at the end of our short driveway so I would have plenty of room to back out. To our amazement, as we looked out the window to admire the racy patrol car, my Neon began a slow slide down the slick pavement right toward the new car. Like an arrow to a target the Neon continues to slide toward the police car and somehow gain speed as unmoving wheels acted like runners on a sled.
Horrified, we watched the Neon's rear bumper smash against the front wheel well of the new car with a sickening crunch. The police car immediately complained with a loud braying of sirens and flashing lights. My husband calmed down when he realized I had the car in park and I mentioned 'somebody' might have pushed the Neon when sliding past to get into the house. His CO was not too happy but had to laugh when he heard the details.
I did get to work that day-in my Jeep with giant tires made for bad weather and a winch to pull itself out of trouble.
