Those with severe cold, how are your chickens doing?
They were fine when I was last out there....Which is hours ago now. And because I like to show off my new flock members, Here is the first baby of the year...I should name him Frosty..or Old Man Winter.. He is a speckled sussex, I am guessing at the HE part based on his overly large feet and toes.. They look straight, lets hope he grows up to hit the show circuit the coming fall....coldest day of the year and he crawled out of his shell...

It’s 9:40p EST, Wed night. I’m in SE Michigan. Woke up to -8°F with windchill at -27°. Was a gorgeous, sunny day & got up to 2°. Right now, we’re back down to -15° With a windchill of -26°. Thankfully, the chickens seemed absolutely fine today with the precautions I’ve taken. All are doing well & I saw no comb/wattles/toes damage. Geez...I hope this stays better than was originally predicted! So far, so good.

Funny tidbit... Tonight, when I closed up the coop, I found one of my banty roos sleeping on the back of one of my EE roos. Couple days ago, it was a banty hen sleeping on that same roo. LOL...one’s a blanket, one’s a heating pad.:D
