Well it is down to 90° by dark it will be in the upper 80's and I will go out then and move the rest of the brooder kids out into grow out pens. I'm going to miss the lows down in the lower 60's from now til fall.

After yesterday’s lovely warmth and humidity today it was chilly and windy.

Starting Monday the heat is on though up into the mid 30s (90s).

I used to go floundering and / or swimming at night quite often in the Gulf of Mexico back in the ‘70’s & ‘80’s

And only once did I see

Phosphorus (I’m not sure if this is correct name )

If you grabbed some of the sand in the gulf and threw it into the gulf every single grain glowed

It was beautiful

Kiki, how lucky are you! Many of us will only get to see phosphorescence on tv documentaries.

Here's a bit of Aussie folk lore from the days of outdoor dunnies. I have plenty of redbacks around. They love making webs in upturned pots. One year I had one web up a watering can I had by the back tap. All the hatching mozzies got trapped in her web on the way out and she feasted well enough to grow larger than I see them in the pots.

My roommate killed a black widow in our hallway two days ago. I shudder to think how many there might be in the house.

Last year we found a huntsman spider (aka giant crab spider) in a corner of the living room. They have a 6 inch leg span and they are. so. FAST.

6"? Oh boy, that would be scary! And I'm one who can hold a daddy-long-legs, but that's it, no others!

Finally our temp is down to 75° and we have lowered the AC to 74° so we can sleep ok. It stays set on 79° normally but with tomorrow's heat wave it will be on 85° while we are gone and then 81° when we return. I dread the power bill when we have these heat waves that are well above the average temp for the date.

Today the monsoon officially starts. The monsoon is a change of wind direction that brings moisture from the Sea of Cortés into the desert. This results intense thunderstorms, spectacular lightning, high winds, dust storms, downbursts, and flash debris floods. We get most of our annual rainfall during the monsoon.

Today isn't when it really starts. In 2008, the National Weather Service assigned it somewhat arbitrary dates of June 15 through September 30.

Prior to that the monsoon began after we had three consecutive days of the dew point being 55° or higher. That usually takes place some time in July and I think most people still consider that the actual start of the season. That's when we transition from dry/first summer to wet/second summer.

Last year was very dry and we didn't get much rain. This year is predicted to be even hotter and drier.
