Meanwhile Summer is still hitting strong here. We are now in an official drought here, I have been watering my fruit trees, but the farmers who have corn and soy beans are desperate for rain. Non forecast any time soon.

Of more immediate concern is the fire danger risk here, it’s high across most of southern & central Ontario but were I live it is extreme. My huge worry is my neighbour’s rotten kids out in the bush on their dirt bikes, the hot engines can get grass and dried brush on fire, thankfully I only have the two horses to worry about if I have to leave here. BUT I also have 43 chooks. My horse trailer can carry them all thankfully but where does one safely store all the chooks if I have to leave? I know my friend will help though so that’s good, but she is also under extreme fire danger.

Currently at 4:27am it is 17C (63F) dew point is 15.6C. My one saving here for today at least is lower humidity, but that all ends after today, back up into the 30’s with humidex into the 40’s.

Forecast today is for 29C (84C)

Have a splendid day everyone!

But poor chickies 😢
They're fairly well adapted. We give cold treats, a cool kiddie pool to stand/soak in, lots of shade, and I run misters all day. Box fans in the coop door for some ventilation at night. They also hang out in the mud puddle we have for the pigs and torts as well.
