Visitors flocking to Queensland's Darling Downs for the annual Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba are advised to take an umbrella, with thunderstorms forecast for the region on Friday.

The Bureau of Meteorology said showers and thunderstorms were also expected on Friday across the state's south-east, including Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine coasts.

Good morning all - tomorrow marks the end of astrological Summer here in the Northern Hemisphere. Of course in reality for those of us living north-north it's been Autumn since before the 1st of September.

Autumn here is marked by daylight hrs shortening, and nightime hrs lengthening. This causes the nightime temperatures to become lower at night - brrrr! And while the daytime highs may reach 27C, it takes a long time to warm up to reach this, and it will only remain there for an hour or so.

Such is the case this past week, lovely warm days but really cold nights - cold enough for frost. Time for me to permanently bring my Banana and Palm trees inside for the winter (it's a lot of work hauling them in and out every day!).

Today it was only 5C when I was up to do chores - the chooks were not happy and with many of the moulting they are finding it rather chilly. Time to close up the big windows and just leave the smaller windows open for ventilation. Even I have been dressing for the chilly temps with my scarf, tuque and gloves making an appearance.

Brrrr! 6c (42F) rather chilly for heat loving me and the fur and feather creatures here!
