What makes a spigot frost free?
You lift the lever and water comes out. You push the lever back down, and the water stops. There's a plunger valve below the frost line. Thus the "frost free".

I've only have the spigot freeze up once or twice.

The well water is typically 3 feet down, below the frost line in the soil.
 
The snow is swirling.
