Have you ever read the Ray Bradbury short story, "All Summer in a Day?" It's a lovely, poignant story. There's a poem in it:I am so glad you were able to get some lovely rainfall. What I take for granted and (loath at times) is a rare gift for you.
I think the sun is a flower
That blooms for just one hour
It symbolizes the fleeting nature of the sun on the planet Venus which only appears for a brief moment once every seven years. It reflects the longing and beauty associated with the sun in a world of constant rain.
For me, it's the opposite: I long for the brief appearance of the rain in a world of constant sun. But I definitely relate to that poem.
My mom was a great admirer of Mr. Bradbury. He gave lectures all around Los Angeles and she never missed a single one. He would stay afterward to chat with people and she was always in that group. She often took me in tow although I was very young and hardly remember much about it except that he was a kind man with a friendly smile.
